INTRODUCTION		SHEPHERD'S-PURSE
Shepherd's-purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) is a dicot weed in the Brassicaceae family. In Denmark this weed first evolved resistance to Group 2 (Legacy B) herbicides in 2012 and infests Spring Barley. Group 2 (Legacy B) herbicides are known as Inhibition of Acetolactate Synthase (Inhibition of Acetolactate Synthase ). Research has shown that these particular biotypes are resistant to florasulam, and tribenuron-methyl and they may be cross-resistant to other Group 2 (Legacy B) herbicides. GENERAL

ALS resistant CAPBP was sampled in 2012 in spring barley. The field was sprayed with sulfonylureas 4 of 5 preceding years and crops established by reduced tillage. The susceptibility to tribenuron and florasulam was examined in pot experiments with 6 doses, and compared to a susceptible reference. The results showed a high level of resistance to tribenuron (RI=75) and a low level of resistance to florasulam (4<RI<10).

TSR analysis showed a heterozygous mutation at Trp-574 of the ALS gene.

Confirmation Tests

Greenhouse, and Laboratory trials comparing a known susceptible Shepherd's-purse biotype with this Shepherd's-purse biotype have been used to confirm resistance. For further information on the tests conducted please contact the local weed scientists that provided this information.
